Daddy B. Nice notes:

Mz Connie's new ROUND 2 @ 5723 EP releases officially May 2, 2023, and vendors selling the set should be posting sales pages soon after. Connie's southern soul/zydeco hybrid dance jam Curvy Queen Slide has already notched a spot in Daddy B. Nice's Top 10 Singles for May 2023. The Curvy Queens from Dallas, Texas were previously featured on Avail Hollywood's official dance video for "Dukes & Boots," although the ranks appear to have grown for "Mz Connie's CQ Slide".

"The Mz Connie Roll" picks up where "Curvy Queen Slide" exits, laying down another jam for dancers. "Keep It One Hunnid" is not a cover of Carlin Taylor's chart hit "Keep It 100" but a blues vehicle modified for the dance floor.

Connie must be drinking plenty of that coffee she likes to stir because she's intent on rousing her fans, even when she's scolding ("Get The Hell Out"). Even mid-tempo tunes like "A Woman's Gotta Have It" and "Sexy Glam Ma" feature high energy vocals and instrumental tracks. The set does offer one breather with "If You Don't Want Me No Mo," a well-done ballad.

Daddy B. Nice notes:

First, the disappointment. What debut album excludes the debut artist's most popular single? In Mz. Connie's case, that would be "Neckbone Lady," a Daddy B Nice, #1-ranked southern soul single in March of 2019 produced and co-sung by the inimitable L.J. Echols. Here's hoping the omission wasn't caused by a financial or copyright issue.

That caveat aside, Mz. Connie's new STIR IT LIKE COFFEE is a competent and occasionally stirring debut by a singer who ranges effortlessly from light to deep topics. "Why You Gotta Act Like That," which also charted on Daddy B Nice's Singles (#8, August 2018), focuses on the "love" side of the equation with self-assurance. The melody is memorable, the production sleek, the vocal and lyrics unfailingly apt. "Grown Folk Good Time" is in the same mold, with a smooth tempo and vivid instrumental track.

The title track "Stir It Like Coffee" does what Mz. Connie does best, posing a love problem in a pleasantly-tempoed, accessible format, and guess who shows up? None other than Nelson Curry! The melody sounded familiar, and that's because Peaches Jones recorded this song back in 2014 with---once again---the same Nelson Curry as co-vocalist.

"Kicking Dirt Up" caters to the trailride crowd, so Mz. Connie brings in the King of Trailride Blues, Jeter Jones. "Is What It Is, Ain't What It Ain't" pulls Mz Connie into a more aggressive vocal style, as does the line-dancing song "Tha Miss Connie Cha".

Rounding out this generous set are "Feel Like A Queen" and "Good Lovin'". The album drops off a little at times---for instance, with "Neither One of Us," a cover of Gladys Knight's "Neither One Of Us Wants To Be The First To Say Good-Bye," or "Late Checkout," which reworks the instrumental track of Peggy Scott-Adams' "I'm Getting What I Want." Overall, though, what's most impressive about Mz. Connie's POUR IT LIKE COFFEE is the natural ease of Mz. Connie's vocals and the professionalism of its production.
