Tony T. (New EP Alert!)
November 18, 2024:
Producers of southern soul come in all sizes and shapes, but the most visible are few. Omar Cunningham goes by the "Greatest Of All Time" (GOAT). Highway Heavy posts elaborate YouTube videos with his name given prominence over the vocalists. Ronald "Slack" Jefferson has amassed a high profile through his work with Jeter Jones. Kang 103 is the latest to achieve name recognition through his work with the popular recording artist King George. But these top-tier producers are far out-numbered by their comrades who work in relative anonymity, and since the demise of the last traditional southern soul label, John Ward's Ecko Records of Memphis, Tennessee, promotional copies, liner notes and other data of interest to record nerds---including information on producers---has become a thing of the past.
